Our Heritage
Lazy Pothooks Ranch is a family-run operation with roots steeped in ranching tradition and a forward-looking commitment to sustainability. Our story begins seven decades ago with Charlie “Dude” Harris, a passionate rancher who created the Lazy Pothooks brand. After being honorably discharged from the army, Charlie bought the land with GI Bill in the late 1950s. Since 2020, we have the honor of stewarding the ranch to continue the legacy. It continues to remain in the family via their surviving daughter Terri and granddaughter Kaylee. Operations are maintained by Zack (son of Terri) and his father Jeff in with the goal of the ranch to pass not only to 2nd and 3rd generations, but to 5th and 6th generations.

Our Process
At Lazy Pothooks Ranch, we believe in raising animals the way God intended. Our cattle roam freely, grazing on fresh, green pastures as we rotate them from field to field. Our eight Bee hives are all wild caught from Brown County TX. The entirety of the process for making honey is exactly what you would expect. The bees make it; we put it in jars and send it to you. The bees don't receive any supplements or sugar water, because it dilutes the natural flavor of the honey, and more importantly, it weakens the resilience of the hive. Our poultry enjoys a similar life, moving daily to feast on fresh grass and insects, producing healthier, tastier chicken. This not only provides them with optimal nutrition but also regenerates the land, ensuring its vitality for generations to come.
"The Brand"
For decades the family didn't know what Charlie called the brand. For the longest time we simply referred to it as "The Brand". Once Charlie passed in 2016, all the other members of the family had either not known or forgotten what it was called. Then in 2020, when it was time for the brand to be re-registered with the county, it was revealed to be “Lazy Pothooks”. Pothooks being used to hang a pot over a campfire. Lazy, meaning that it was turned ninety degrees on its side, so that it appeared to be laying down. It is believed that he chose this design because it was more difficult to forge, yet only really needed to make a single "J" branding iron to make the overall brand.
